This bill would change federal campaign finance rules for trade associations. Under current law, these groups face limits on when they can ask for political contributions from the stockholders and certain managers or office workers of the companies that belong to them. The bill would remove part of that restriction, making it easier for trade associations to solicit those contributions. In simple terms, it gives trade associations more freedom to ask for campaign-related donations from people connected to their member companies.
- It changes a section of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971.
- The main effect is to remove the “prior approval” requirement for these solicitations.
- The new rule would apply to solicitations made on or after January 1, 2025.
- The bill is meant to expand the ability of trade associations to ask certain people at member corporations for contributions.
